Luke 1:39-42

39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

As we examine these verses, we can understand that God requires our faith, gives us promises, and intensifies our joy as we love and know Him more through time in prayer and in reading and studying God’s Word.

Elizabeth was the wife of Zechariah and also the cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Both women found grace with God. God had promised Elizabeth that she would have a son who from the womb would be filled by the Spirit. This son later became to be known as John the Baptist. The angel revealed to Mary the promise of God that Elizabeth (although well beyond the years of child-bearing age) was pregnant, confirming God’s miracle. God connected the two promises. As Mary knew that she would bring the Savior into the world, she went to her cousin’s home. As Mary greeted Elizabeth, the son in Elizabeth’s womb recognized Jesus in Mary’s womb. We can see that these two women were kind and full of rejoicing. They had true fellowship and love. And both had a sincere love for God. We can be thankful for Mary and Elizabeth and their Godly fear, the roles they played in our biblical history, and the example of Godly love that ruled their hearts.

  • How am I showing active faith in God that opens the door for God’s blessing?
